Preparing a Rehearsal Studio at Home

Are you and your friends planning to organise a rock band? That is pretty fantastic and who knows, with hard practice, your group could be on the radio. The keyword here is "practice" and you need to do it often to improve at your musical craft. Since renting a music studio for each practice session is expensive, you may want to consider preparing a room in your home where you can rehearse.

First, find an appropriate-sized room. A spare room is great but you can also use the basement, garage, or summerhouse. An important thought to consider is that you will be making a lot of noise while you practice. Thus, choose a place that is not next to bedrooms or an area where family members stay for some peace and quiet.

Next, prepare the room by removing clutter and dirt. Once the place is clear of debris and other unused stuff, begin soundproofing it by attaching cardboard egg trays on the walls. If you think this is too unsightly, you can use special soundproofing foam that professional studios utilise. Be careful though because this material can easily catch fire. Thus, you should not allow anyone to smoke inside your studio.

Next, arrange your instruments in a way that the most visible performers, usually the guitarists and the vocalist, will have lots of space. Typically, the drums and the keyboards should be positioned near the back wall while the mixers, amplifiers, and other electronic equipment stay at the side so they can easily be accessed. Finally, put on some decorations to liven up your studio. Rock star posters, bobble-head dolls, and lava lamps are great examples of miscellaneous things to add to the room.
